The Robbie Bach Interview

Mixed news for 360 fanboys this week, following an interview with Microsoft’s President of Entertainment and Devices, Robbie Bach.

In the interview, he remains confident about the performance of the Xbox 360, saying:

I think Sony, frankly, suffers a little bit from this problem, which is they’re spread really thin across all these areas. And trying to do PSP, competing with Nintendo, PSP to DS; competing with us, 360 to PS3, I think it does strain – it would naturally strain any organisation

This might sound a bit hypocritical coming from the man who is behind Microsoft’s latest attempted to wrench the portable music player market from the well manicured hands of Apple, yet it does sum up a feeling that’s been repeated across many message boards and analyst columns, namely that Sony is investing too much in trying to corner every market.

Bach goes on to talk about the long anticipated Xbox 360 price cut, which will unfortunately remain long anticipated. Microsoft’s justification for this is that Sony is selling a similar product for a greater price, giving Microsoft a significant price advantage. However, this has not stopped some UK retailers from cutting the 360’s price tag, with one retailer selling an Xbox 360 Premium package plus Gears of War for only £269.99.

Colbert and the Wii

Despite my European bias when it comes to gaming news, I quite enjoy American politics. I’m not sure why, but I’m crazy enough to do my degree on it.
Consequently, the Colbert Report (and it’s parent, The Daily Show) amuse me greatly. Especially if it involves a Wii and satire.

Crib Notes: Nancy Pelosi is the Speaker of the House. Think a cross between Gordon Brown and John Prescott, without the fat, jaguars or budget. She’s third in line for the Presidency.

Quiet Update

It’s been a bit quiet round here of late. There are three reasons for that which fall in a rather neat chronological order:

Reason the First:

Thanksgiving. America’s favourite holiday took place last week, and forms a bit of a dead time for gaming news, mainly because most of the companies from which news originate are based in the US.

Reason the Second:

I renewed my World of Warcraft subscription. Truth be told, this is probably a bad decision, however I’d only played WoW for 40 days or so before then I took a two month break. However, I always said that I wanted to get my Paladin (Hammerfell on EU-Excutus) up to level 60 for BC. I want me some epics.

Reason the Third & Forth:

In some ways, just now it quite quiet. There isn’t much news coming out because retailers and publishers are busy with Christmas and the imminent Wii launch in Japan, Europe and Australasia. Couple with this I have deadlines for Uni and Uni always comes first. Well, maybe WoW comes first, but Uni comes second. Anyway, I will try and start posting some more. I enjoy posting on here and I hope people enjoy reading it.
