Mixed news for 360 fanboys this week, following an interview with Microsoft’s President of Entertainment and Devices, Robbie Bach.
In the interview, he remains confident about the performance of the Xbox 360, saying:
I think Sony, frankly, suffers a little bit from this problem, which is they’re spread really thin across all these areas. And trying to do PSP, competing with Nintendo, PSP to DS; competing with us, 360 to PS3, I think it does strain – it would naturally strain any organisation
This might sound a bit hypocritical coming from the man who is behind Microsoft’s latest attempted to wrench the portable music player market from the well manicured hands of Apple, yet it does sum up a feeling that’s been repeated across many message boards and analyst columns, namely that Sony is investing too much in trying to corner every market.
Bach goes on to talk about the long anticipated Xbox 360 price cut, which will unfortunately remain long anticipated. Microsoft’s justification for this is that Sony is selling a similar product for a greater price, giving Microsoft a significant price advantage. However, this has not stopped some UK retailers from cutting the 360’s price tag, with one retailer selling an Xbox 360 Premium package plus Gears of War for only £269.99.
