They’re Right About the Wrist Straps… – Updated

Via Engadget and the Something Awful forums comes a tale of woe which should serve as a lesson to all Wii buyers.

This guy was quite happily playing Wii Sports Bowling with his friend. The remote slipped out of the guy’s hand and should have been stopped by the wrist strap.

Except it wasn’t. The strap snapped and his 60″ TV set got pwnd.

And that ladies and gentlemen is why you should always ware a wrist strap with your Wii-mote. I now have nightmare images of Wii-motes flying out of my lounge window. Some kind of net may be in order…

Update:

Hot on the heels of that (and again via Engadget) comes another report of a Wii-remote smashing a TV. This time the story is being regarded with a bit more skepticism however (take a look at the comments on the Engadget link).

This time, instead of a 30-something year old dude, it was a seven year old lass who mangaed to crack a TV screen. Again it was while playing Wii Sports Bowling.

The main point being raised is how did a seven year old manage to crack a TV screen? It takes a fair whack to crack the toughened glass that’s used in the construction of a TV.

Anyway, you can decide for your selves, as the photos of the TV and strap are on Flickr. Regarding the second photo, please people, Christmas is still a month away. At least wait until December to put your tree up.

Look Inside My Consoles

One of the highlights of the launch weekend for me (as a bitter European) was the posting of these two videos, by SmashmyPS3.com and SmashmyWii.com. These guys got donations to buy a Wii and PS3, camped out for them then smashed them with a sledge hammer.

It amused me.

If you’d like to see inside the Wii without having to take yours apart (or use a sledge hammer), then the Popular Science site has posted some pretty detailed pictures of a Wii being taken apart. Dammit that is one well designed system.
