Welcome to the Machiavellian Nerd.
With this blog, I hope to both inform and stimulate debate. There are two main reasons why I’ve decided to create my own website (the current WordPress hosted version is a temporary holding area) to detail the happenings in the gaming world.
Firstly, I feel far too many of the major games news sites have become overly commercialised. I understand the need for this. IGN/GameSpy, GameSpot, 1Up and others receive millions of hits a day and host thousands of video streams and high resolution images. I’d hate to even imagine their server costs, but that doesn’t excuse bombarding me with ads and poor website design.
Secondly, I’m fed up with the attitude of gamers. Over the past year and a half, I’ve been following the launch and development of the Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, DS and PSP quite closely, as have millions of others around the world. I have spent hours reading comments on blogs and forums which proved that many gamers are both astute and intelligent, however for every well written argument purporting the advantages of the the PS3 over the Wii or the DS over the PSP, there is twenty rabid fan boys, gnashing their teeth and flaming the forums.
I’m fed up of the bias and flaming that exists on so much of the internet. I want to just put forth my opinions on the latest gaming news without getting my head ripped off.
So, I hope you enjoy this. I can’t promise regular updates, because I am still a student, and occasionally coursework takes precedence over gaming, but I hope to both inform and encourage sensible debate.
